Travelers notebooks have become extremely popular in the planner community not just for planning but many other uses like memory keeping, art journaling, and reflection journals just to name a few. As a result, the options available on the market have grown to the point where choosing one can be an overwhelming experience. This week, I’m kicking off a video series dedicated to travelers notebooks where each video will provide some basic information needed to decide if and which travelers notebook are for you. In this first video, I’m sharing all the travelers notebook sizes currently available as well as other sizing considerations so let’s get started!
To begin, there are many travelers notebook aka ‘TN’ sizes available on the market and it continues to grow every day. As of the time of this writing, I’m aware of 11 different sizes—I own 10 of them—which are listed below:
- Small Travelers Notebook range:
- Nano / Micro / Size 0 or ‘zero’ (approximately 2.75” x 3.75”; newest size on the market)
- Passport (approximately 3.5” x 4.8”; this is the ‘compact’ size travelers notebook created by the Midori company now known as ‘Travelers Company’, the original creator of the travelers notebook)
- Pocket / Field Notes (approximately 3.5” x 5.5”; most popular size from the small range)
- Mid-range Travelers Notebooks:
- A6 (approximately 4.1” x 5.8”)
- Personal (approximately 3.75” x 6.75”; modeled after the personal size ring binder)
- B6 Slim (approximately 4.25” x 7.25”; a narrower version of the standard B6 size)
- B6 (approximately 5” x 7”)
- Large Travelers Notebooks:
- Standard / Regular / Narrow (approximately 4.25” x 8.25”; this is the original travelers notebook size created by the Midori company aka ‘Travelers Company’ )
- Extra Wide (approximately 5” x 8.25”; this is the wider version of the standard/regular/narrow size made to accommodate the popular Moleskine Cahier and similar size booklets)
- A5 (approximately 5.8” x 8.3”; modeled after the A5 size ring binder)
- Composition / Notebook (approximately 7.5” x 10”; school notebook size—not as widely used due to it’s large size which makes it too heavy to carry)

This is great information, I’m a bujo newbie-I thought I purchased an A5 TN, but your video let me know it’s a standard TN. No wonder there is overhang! I’m now looking forward you viewing all your videos and trying to catch up on your posts. Thanks for a great blog.
Thanks Liz! Sorry to hear you ended up with the wrong size–it can be so confusing!–but hopefully the video helped. The standard size is wonderful too if you just want to replace the inserts–it’s one of my favorites because there’s a lot of writing room but it’s more compact that an extra-wide and A5.
Thanks for reading and watching!

Hi! maybe you can help me out? My traveler’s notebook is 6.3″x3.4″…what’s it called? I’m having trouble finding inserts
Hi Cat!
Excuse the delayed response–I’ve been swamped at work.
Given that those dimensions aren’t standard sizing for booklets, you’ll have to either (1) by a standard booklet like a Pocket, A6, or Personal size and cut it to size or (2) make your own booklet using regular paper for the pages and card stock for a cover. There are a lot of insert templates available on the internet or you can design your own and if you’re not sure how to print and assemble it, you can take the file to a Staples/office supply store and have them print and bind it to the exact size you need.
HTH and thanks for reading!

P.S. Pocket is 3.5″x5.5″, A6 is 4.1″x5.8″, and Personal is 3.75″x6.75″.
Make a first purchase, now I have moleskine cahier 5 x 8.25 and now I will look for covers that cover it. Thanks for informing me that it’s wider than the standard. Life-saver and convenience maker for putting the sizes online.
You’re very welcome! 🙂
